Mental Health Care for Adolescents

Serving Houston Texas and the surrounding counties, West Oaks adolescent mental health programs are specifically designed for teens ages 13 to 17 who are experiencing emotional and psychological problems that interfere with daily life. These issues may present themselves in the form of impulsive or defiant behavior, inability to concentrate, extreme or prolonged mood swings, drug or alcohol abuse or physical aggression.

West Oak’s mental health care for adolescents program is designed to reinforce positive behavior through the following methods:

  • Individual, family, and group sessions

    • Individual therapy can help your teen work through issues one-on-one, while family therapy can help repair familial rifts and help strengthen relationships.
  • Therapeutic recreation

    • Therapeutic recreation, such as art and music therapy, can teach expression, discipline and personal investment skills which will serve adolescents well into their adulthood.
  • Multi-family group

    • Sessions with other families can help you and your teen understand what others are going through or have gone through, which can help you as a family unit find support and understanding.
  • Parent education and support group

    • Knowing what your teen is going through can be key to helping them down the road, as well as helping yourself understand and cope with what is happening to your loved one.
  • Addiction education

    • Understanding addiction is a powerful tool during substance use treatment, as well as helping in lending support to a loved one. These educational groups are designed to help those who are struggling with addiction or have a family member struggling with an addiction understand the process, and pivot toward recovery.

Adolescent Treatment Programs

Our mental health residential treatment facility offers adolescent mental health programs, including:

  • Inpatient care

    • Inpatient youth mental health care is designed to stabilize your teen and help them get to a place where they can continue to grow. This intensive inpatient program for adolescents is centered on round-the-clock care, treatments and therapies in an environment with counselors, therapists, psychiatrists and more, depending on severity and need.
  • Day treatment

    • Our day treatment program can be a great step-down for your teen after they are stabilized and no longer require inpatient mental health treatment for youth, or it can be a great first step into treatment. Taking place for most of the day throughout the week, this option allows your loved one to return home at night after treatment.
  • Outpatient chemical dependency

    • Unlike inpatient youth mental health treatment or our day program, our outpatient chemical dependency program focuses on teens with substance use disorders and/or a co-occurring mental health disorder. Mental health care for adolescents cannot treat the whole person unless also considering and being able to treat potential substance abuse issues.
